If you have upgraded to cPanel 62 and you have started receiving this email:
Deprecated MySQL databases
The following MySQL databases have been deprecated and are no longer used by cPanel & WHM.
Database Name : Database Username
leechprotect : leechprotect
modsec : modsecYou can delete these databases and related database users at your leisure.
This notice is the result of a request from “database_deprecations”.
This is caused because in cPanel version 62, they updated leechprotect and mod security to use SQLite. According to these 2 entries from the release notes:
Leechprotect updated to use SQLite
We updated the leechprotect service to use SQLite. This change eliminates the need for a MySQL database and database user to run the leechprotect service.ModSecurity now uses SQLite
We updated WHM’s ModSecurity Tools (Home >> Security Center >> ModSecurity™ Tools) interface to use SQLite.
Because of these changes, it is safe to delete both of those databases. To delete the databases, use the following steps.
- Log into the WHM
- Click on phpMyAdmin
- Click on the database you want to delete
- Click on the operations tab
- Click on “Drop the database (DROP)”
